The purpose of our forming the Hall of Fame is to focus attention on Somerville’s rich athletic history and to encourage Somerville’s young people to strive to reach their full potential as student athletes and as citizens. Athletics is a way of life. It is hard work, discipline, commitment, dedication and sacrifice. Our Committee has changed since the Hall’s inception, but one thing that has not changed is the high standards held for induction into the Hall.

Somerville High School has a rich tradition of turning out outstanding athletes who have made significant accomplishments in other avenues of life. Somerville is a unique town with a spirit that makes people that live there proud to be part of the community. Over $102,000 has been given to boys and girls in scholarships in the past thirty years of the Hall of Fame’s existence. Special thanks should be given to our patrons, sponsors, advertisers and you in attendance this evening. For without this financial assistance and participation, we would not have been able to fund this affair nor provide these scholarships. Our Hall of Fame plaques are located on the walls of our gymnasium foyer. Please come see them some time.
